The story follows the adventures of three sailors on 24-hour shore leave during WWII and features classic numbers such as “New York, New York,” “Lonely Town,” and “Some Other Time.” On the Town will be directed by Alan Paul, Associate Artistic Director of The Shakespeare Theatre Company. The year is 1985 and Robbie Hart, a wannabe rock star, is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. When his own fiancée leaves him on the eve of the wedding, only the kindness of a winsome waitress can get him back in the groove. The only problem? Her upcoming wedding to a Wall Street shark. This retro gem features a lively and fun original score, and is a high-energy celebration of the 80s.

For a repressed group of teenagers, the road to adulthood is fraught with suffocating confusion in Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater’s Tony-winning adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s prescient 19th-century drama. As the adults in their lives exert control but withhold guidance, Melchior, Wendla, Moritz, Ilse, and their friends navigate blindly through the enigma of their burgeoning sexuality. Alan will direct AFTER LIFE and JOSEPHINE for Urban Arias in April.   These two short operas focus on famous artists in Paris such as Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, and Josephine Baker.
