European Opera-Directing Prize

Alan was a finalist for the European Opera-Directing Prize in Vienna, Austria in April, 2013. EOP is an initiative of Camerata Nuova E.v. in Weisbaden, in cooperation with Opera Europa.

Competitors were asked to create a full design and directing concept for Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci. Alan’s team was the only American team chosen for the finals.

About the competition: “It is currently the only big competition for opera directors in Germany. In 2001, the EOP was organized for the first time with Klaus Zehelein as president of the jury. The aim is to promote the current trend in music theatre direction and to give young talented directors a forum of expression. Many of the prize-winners from the past years are now successfully working internationally as Director, Stage or Costume Designer.”
